Transitions Ahead
Dear students,
Last week I let the student leaders of Lutheran Campus Ministry know that I have resigned my position of Outreach and Program Director and will complete my last day of work with LCM on Wednesday, October 9.
Though I’ve only been my position since July of 2018, my time with all of you has been an incredible blessing. Every time I have gathered with you I come away surprised by your genuine kindness, impressive intelligence, and bold curiosity. It has been so fun to get to know you all and to support you in this vibrant, student-led ministry.
I would be lying if I didn’t admit to the leap of faith I took when accepting this position with LCM. There were many unanswered questions at the time of my hiring, mostly involving how I might find balance with this new position alongside my vocation as a church musician, as a partner to Chesley, and (of course) as a puppy daddy to Theo. And the truth is I never felt like I found that balance. I so desperately wanted to do EVERYTHING to the best of my ability which meant working beyond my capacity to be a healthy person.
So, now I am choosing to take another leap of faith, trusting less on only myself and my own abilities and more on God’s abundant grace. I trust God will continue to stir your imaginations and work in and through your lives on campus and in the world. I trust God will continue to surround you all with supportive and loving mentors and peers who will be by your side every step. I also trust God will continue to challenge you and this ministry, continuing to open your eyes and hearts to the needs of our neighbors for love’s sake.
You should know that you’ve impacted me in a way that will continue in my life beyond the terms of my employment with Lutheran Campus Ministry. You’ve taught me how to better be okay with myself. You’ve shown me how to be real, how to be curious, and how to be community. And I will always carry that in my heart.
Thank you,
Nate
